African swine fever (ASF) is an acute and often fatal disease affecting domestic pigs and wild boar, with severe economic consequences for affected countries. On 3rd August, 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that China's fi rst case of African swine fever occurred in Shenyang, Liaoning. So far, there have been 149 cases of African swine fever in China. More than 1.16 million pigs were culled. Facing the unprecedented African swine fever, there is no effective medicine and vaccine to prevent it, so the pig industry is facing various crises. This article gives a brief introduction to African swine fever, as well as proposes measures and suggestions for the prevention and control of African swine fever. |
